UPDATE: 1:30 p.m., Friday

A standoff at a home in North Highlands ends in tragedy as a man takes his own life.

The young man's grandfather ran to a fire station to summon help. Minutes after 8 in the morning Sacramento Sheriff's arrived tried to open communication with the armed man.

"Efforts to reach anybody in the house were unsuccessful. Efforts to reach this person by phone, in case he had left, were unsuccessful," Sgt. Jason Ramos said.

As Sheriffs searched the neighborhood just in case, SWAT acted.

"Ultimately we sent one of our tactical robots inside the home to clear it, and there were indications of a body unresponsive with signs of trauma," he said.

Sheriff's entered and confirmed the man was dead.

SACRAMENTO -- Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies have surrounded a home on Floral Drive in North Highlands.

Sgt. Jason Ramos says a man walked into a local fire station -- saying his nephew entered his home and fired some shots.

Deputies have surrounded the home as a precautionary measure. Nearby homes have been evacuated, as well.

Ramos says they're still not sure whether the man is still inside the home. KFBK will bring you updates as they become available.
