SACRAMENTO- Sexually transmitted diseases are becoming a big problem in Sacramento County.
According to the latest information from the State of California, Sacramento County has the third highest rate of STDs out of 58 counties. The Sac Bee adds that the numbers show the biggest increase is among people between 15 and 29 years old.
Chlamydia cases were up 27% between 2008 and 2011. Syphillis cases are up an astonishing 127% from 2010 to 2011. One Sacramento County health officer says cell phones are part of the problem, since they make it easy for young people to make it easier to "hook up."
County health officials are at a loss for a single cause of the increase.
