SACRAMENTO -- The Sacramento Police Department is cracking down on illegal marijuana grows in the city.

Medical Marijuana cultivation laws enacted by Sacramento City Council last fall are now being enforced by the city's Police Department.

"When they identify a possible marijuana grow that's outdoors -- they're responding to the house. They're simply knocking on the front door and giving them a notice of the violation," Officer Doug Morse said.

Morse says no citations or arrests are made on the initial visit.

"They have 10 days to correct any violations and at that time enforcement action is taken," Morse said.

The technique seems to be working. So far, every time officers have followed up, they've found growers in compliance and no arrests have been made.
