SACRAMENTO -- Sacramento Police officers opened fire on a man who confronted them this morning as they were investigating a homicide in south Sacramento.

Detectives were conducting an investigation near the 7100 block of Elder Creek Road near 65th Street this morning, and looking to talk to a man they think may have information related to a recent shooting, Officer Doug Morse said.

When detectives tried to talk to the man, he tried to get away and they discovered he was armed with a hand gun, he said.

As the man struggled to avoid being arrested, officers were forced to shoot him. The unidentified man was taken to an area hospital where he's now being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Other than some minor scrapes, no officers were injured in the incident.
