So far, Sacramento hasn't seen any deaths as a result of this heat wave. The state's emergency management agency says that's because we're all paying more attention.

For one, heat waves aren't like earthquakes or wildfires, weather forecasts allow CalEMA to communicate information to the public, said Tina Walker with CalEMA.

Walker said their early warnings, preparations, and common-sense advice has everyone asking the right questions:

"Are we drinking enough water? What do I do if my air conditioning goes out and I need a place to cool off? What's available here in my city?" said Walker.

And their work continues. This is going to be an ongoing message, effort and monitoring by the organization.
