Both mainstream and social media are being criticized for poor reporting immediately following the Boston Marathon bombings. Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy is among those who say there was an abundance of misinformation, like an exagerated number of people killed by the blasts and speculation about multiple unexploded bombs. Murphy says the media need to chill and let law enforcement official do their job.

Social media also are being taken to task. CNN cites an example of a posted picture on Facebook with a caption noting a kneeling man planned to propose to the girlfriend he was cradling in his arms, but she died in the blasts. The Boston Globe says the picture is of a man simply trying to help an injured woman.
