If you use your cell phone to provide you with directions while you drive, you're risking a ticket. So says a Fresno County Superior Court judge, who has ruled the state law that bans talking on your cellphone also applies to reading a map from a phone in your hand because it can interfere with your attention to the road.

The court ruling upholds the conviction of a man who was ticketed by the CHP for looking at a map on his cell phone while holding the phone in his hand. Using the device in a hands-free manner is okay.
