AREA 51, NEVADA -- People who believe aliens have visited Earth may be disappointed by new information out on the mysterious Area 51 in Nevada.

The CIA is officially admitting to the existence of the Area 51 installation northwest of Las Vegas, but there's no evidence in the documents of flying saucers or anything at all unearthly.

Jeffrey Richelson with the National Security Archive says at least the government is acknowledging Area 51.

"They're no longer pretending the place doesn't exist. That's the first step to getting a lot more information in the future," Richelson said.

For now, all we know is that Area 51 has been a testing site for the government's U-2 and Blackbird aerial surveillance programs.
