Sacramento County Park Rangers say they confiscated and disposed of dozens of beer cans and alcohol bottles along the American River on Thursday.

Alcohol has been outlawed during holidays for a couple years now, and a ban is in place through Sunday. It's a safety measure meant to prevent partiers from getting out of hand.

Ranger Sergeant Randy Lewis said despite the alcohol ban, people are still bringing it out to the river. Forty percent to 60 percent of the people park rangers check still have alcohol with them, he said.

Efforts are concentrated on a stretch between Sunrise Boulevard and River Bend Park.

The rangers have confiscated quite a bit of beer this weekend, Lewis said.
